We held ourfirst parent workshop for volunteers who would like work and read 1:1 with our Belhamites.During the session, we talked about the key principles of reading asillustrated by Scarborough's Reading Rope and the complexity of the readingprocess our children go through as they learn to read fluently and withincreasing skill. We also discussed strategies for supporting a strugglingreader to persevere and use the reliable decoding routines they've learned inclass. Finally, we looked through examples of questions to use when reading 1:1that will help promote understanding and further develop the children's abilityto talk confidently about different types of texts. These linked directly to the key reading skills that we teach here at the Belham. You can see the 6skills in the photo here.
