The school was visited today by construction industry mascots Ivor and Honor Goodsite, who entertained the children and passed on the important message that building sites can be dangerous places for children.

The milestone for foundation works has been achieved, with basement access works now due to start a little earlier than planned. Morgan Sindall are now preparing the new-build area to start the ground floor concrete floor slab. The steel frame for the extension is still due as planned on 7 March. Works are progressing according to schedule and have not been affected by the recent cold temperatures.
Photographs below show the completed Reception classroom, second floor MME installation and ground preparation.

Scaffolding to the Bellenden Road elevation will be removed from Thursday 10 November as the facade and roof are nearing completion. We're very excited to see the building unveiled, as heritage work to the masonry on other facades has been stunning. The footpath on Bellenden Road may be closed during the day for up to two weeks to facilitate the scaffolding removal. The old sub-station is currently being demolished to enable the contractor to commence foundations for the new extension. On Monday 14 November CFA piling will begin; using this method, noise and vibration should be minimal.

'Sectional completion' of part of the ground floor of the Victorian building, including the fit-out of two classrooms, has been achieved. Due to scaffolding remaining up around the site and piling works for the new extension due to begin in November, children are not yet being educated on site. In the next few weeks, parents will have the opportunity to look around the finished rooms.

Work continues apace with lots of different trades on site getting everything ready for our partial occupation in September. Furniture arrives at the end of the month, data points are in and we have even chosen the colour of our pupil trays ('kiwi jelly'!).

The past few weeks have seen a flurry of sign-offs on the interior of the building. Access control has been finalised and the colour and finish of flooring and ironmongery chosen. Plastering is now underway and heritage brick workers are on site.

UK Power Networks are busy digging up the section of pavement on Bellenden Road outside the school building. This is being done to reroute services to the substation, which has been relocated from the interior of the school site and can now be seen just inside the Bellenden Road entrance. Next week beginning 14 March UKPN will start work on Maxted Road. The works should be completed within the next few weeks.

The demolition of the 20th century addition to the original Victorian building at the rear of the site is now complete. Neighbours of the school may not have noticed this happening as it was done entirely by hand! The removal of the structure and its complicated 'zig-zag' staircase makes way for our new central hall, with studio hall and roof garden above. Exciting times! |

We met today with our architect and furniture consultant to choose our tables and chairs. Colour choices will come later but we're happy with the fresh, modern styles we've picked out - with a little bit of 'mid-century modern' in the mix too! Even though the school will not have a full pupil roll until 2021, all our furniture will be delivered by September 2017, so we'll have lots of lovely spaces kitted out ready and waiting for our pupils as they move up through the school.

We were very excited to visit the site today and see the spaces taking shape. The 20th century dividing walls and mezzanines have now been removed, returning the classrooms to their former light-filled, high ceilinged glory.
